When you call for computer support, it is helpful to know what
components are on your computer. For instance, you may be asked what
your operating system is, what kind of a processor the computer has, or
how much memory.
In Windows Vista, click the green Start button, then right-click on "Computer" and Click "Properties." To see a list of the hardware devices connected to your computer, click "Device Manager" in the left menu.
In Windows XP,
click the green Start button, then right-click on “My Computer” and Click “Properties.”
With older versions of Windows, right-click the “My Computer” icon on your desktop.
The General tab will give
you the basic information. Clicking on the Hardware tab, then
“Device Manager” will show a list of the hardware devices connected to
your computer.
To find out which version of software you’re using, you
can click “Help” in any Windows-based program and then click the letter
“a” on your keyboard.
